Bahrain-McLaren signs Jack Haig to a three-year deal
Bahrain-McLaren has signed talented Australian climber Jack Haig to a three-year deal, the team announced on Thursday.
Haig, 26, has been with the Mitchelton-Scott organization since making the jump to the WorldTour there in 2016. In that time, he has taken one WorldTour-level win (a stage at the 2017 Tour of Poland) along with numerous top 10s in stage races and climber-friendly one-days.
“After five wonderful years at Mitchelton Scott I am ready for this new challenge and contributing to the journey of Team Bahrain-McLaren,” Haig said in a press release.
At his new team, which will drop McLaren from its name next season, Haig will find himself riding alongside fellow climbing talents Mikel Landa and Wout Poels, who joined the squad last transfer season in a major shakeup of the roster.
For now, it is not yet clear what Haig’s expected role will be in the new setup.
“We want every one of our riders to push themselves and find out how good they can be,” said team principal Rod Ellingworth. “In Jack’s case, he’s shown us his potential, so I see an exciting future ahead of him. But to achieve the sort of success we want for our riders, it’s down to every member of the team to pull in the same direction. That’s the sort of culture we have been building at Team Bahrain McLaren. I look forward to working with Jack and helping him achieve his personal goals.”
