Astana Qazastan riders have not been paid so far in 2022
As VeloNews reports, Astana Qazaqstan riders are experiencing another delay in receiving their wages, an issue that already emerged during a stretch early in 2021.
According to VeloNews, Astana Qazaqstan has not paid riders its wages for January. Another payment is expected between February 28 and March 5, and that has yet to arrive as of Tuesday.
The team has not released a statement on the matter but a team spokesperson reportedly suggested that something may be published in the near future; the team also reportedly does tend to have problems paying riders in the beginning of a new year.
Indeed, payment delays are nothing new for the squad, with multiple instances of late wages reported over the course of the team’s existence. Most recently, payments were months late at the start of 2021. Riders were eventually paid, with team general manager Alexandre Vinokourov and managing director Yana Seel noting at the time in a joint statement that, “As we are being sponsored by official government organization sometimes there is a delay of payment due to slow administrative processing of the funds approval.”
Mass resignations in Kazakhstan’s government and widespread protests in the country, however, leave the current situation for the team in question.
