Amy Pieters wins Dutch national road race title
Amy Pieters (SD Worx) took a strong solo victory at the Dutch National Championships, crossing the line with 2:27 to spare.
With her SD Worx team on policing duties in the peloton, the former European champion got into the day’s breakaway, and her fellow escapers could do nothing to stop her when Pieters attacked with about an hour left to race. Jumbo-Visma’s Nancy Van Der Berg and Karlijn Swinkels joined Pieters on the podium, and the peloton was led home by Lorena Wiebes (DSM) and Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) 3:40 down.
This is a first national title for Amy Pieters who has made three visits to the podium in the past, and only twice finished outside the top five in 11 appearances.
