Albstadt MTB Worlds postponed
This year’s UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Albstadt, Germany, have been postponed amid coronavirus concerns.
Initially planned to run from June 25 to June 28, the cross country, cross country relay, and e-bike Worlds events will instead be held at an as-of-yet undetermined later date, assuming the racing goes ahead at all. In a statement, organizers noted that cancellation was not entirely off the table, but said they were working to find a new date to hold the event, which would be the first time the city in southwestern Germany has hosted MTB Worlds.
“At what time the World Championships could alternatively be held in Albstadt is currently being checked,” Worlds organizers said.
“Conceivable alternatives are relocation in autumn 2020 or implementation in 2021. A complete cancellation of this sporting highlight is not excluded, but should be avoided.”
According to the statement, the race organizers, the Association of German Cyclists, and the UCI will hold a conference call next week to decide on the future of the event.
