After years of reluctance, Ineos has finally given in to Big Disc
The Ineos Grenadiers have announced that they will race on disc brakes at the upcoming GP Denain.
Specifically, the squad’s riders will be aboard Pinarello’s Dogma F Disc bike for the UCI Pro Series race, which takes place on Tuesday in the Netherlands.
“Pinarello are constantly working to keep our bike at the front of the peloton and their commitment to providing us the very best equipment has been evident across this project,” said team racing director Rod Ellingworth via a team press release. “Rider feedback has also been encouraging.”
As the rest of the pro peloton has adopted disc brake technology to varying degrees in recent years, the Ineos Grenadiers are the only WorldTour squad that has yet to race on discs outside of the initial trial period a few years ago, but that will finally change as of this week.
It remains to be seen how much more the team will utilize disc brakes in the near future, but it’s worth noting that Paris-Roubaix is approaching on October 3. Beyond that, it does appear that the team is collaborating with its partners to potentially further explore opportunities for using the technology.
“Our relationship with Pinarello has always been grounded in a love of racing and innovation, and their work on the Dogma F Disc should enable our riders to race to their maximum,” said Carsten Jeppesen, the team’s Head of Technical Partners.”
“Working closely with Pinarello and Shimano, we will continue to develop the all-round disc package, optimizing weight, the integration across Dura-Ace, and improvements in the quick release system.”
