Multiple teams across the pro peloton decided to roll out some news ahead of the weekend, with one particularly big squad announcing a new addition for next season while other teams unveiled their Tour rosters.
Adam Yates will join Ineos next year after seven seasons with the Mitchelton-Scott organization. A two-time Grand Tour top 10 finisher, Yates will join an Ineos team that is undoubtedly undergoing a bit of change at the end of the year as Chris Froome departs for Israel Start-Up Nation. Yates’s move will also mean that, for the first time in his pro career, he will no longer be teammates with his twin brother Simon, who just signed an extension to stay with Mitchelton.
In other racing news, both Bahrain-McLaren and CCC have unveiled their Tour de France rosters. Bahrain will look to Mikel Landa to lead the way in a GC-focused squad that does not include Mark Cavendish. CCC will hunt stages with Greg Van Avermaet, Matteo Trentin, and Ilnur Zakarin headlining the team.

|Ineos signs Adam Yates to a two-year deal
Adam Yates will join Ineos next season on a two-year deal after seven seasons with Mitchelton-Scott, all of them as a teammate of his twin brother Simon Yates.
Adam Yates’s career palmares includes a white jersey and a fourth-place overall finish at the 2016 Tour de France as well as several strong results from one-week and one-day races, including the overall win at this year’s UAE Tour and a Clásica San Sebastián victory in 2015.
“My results in weeklong races and one-day races have been really solid but I would like to take that consistency to Grand Tour racing with the Ineos Grenadiers and see where it takes me,” the 28-year-old Briton said via a press release.
| Landa will lead Bahrain-McLaren’s at the Tour, Cavendish left out
Bahrain-McLaren has unveiled its roster for the Tour de France, where the team will back Mikel Landa’s GC aspirations. Mark Cavendish, who joined the squad this season, did not make the team’s selection.
Riding alongside Landa will be Wout Poels, Pello Bilbao, Damiano Caruso, Rafael Valls, Marco Haller, Matej Mohoric, and Sonny Colbrelli.
| Van Avermaet, Zakarin headline stage-focused CCC Tour lineup
CCC will hunt stages at the Tour de France with a lineup headlined by Greg Van Avermaet, Matteo Trentin, and Ilnur Zakarin.
Jan Hirt, Jonas Koch, Simon Geschke, Michael Schär, and Alessandro De Marchi round out the squad.
| Teams with two people positive for coronavirus will be removed from the 2020 Tour
The ASO has revealed the steps it will take in the event of a positive coronavirus test within the peloton in a document shared with teams this week.
According to the ASO’s plan, if a rider or a team staffer shows serious symptoms or returns a positive COVID-19 test, that person will be removed from the race. If two people in a team show serious symptoms or are positive for the virus, the entire team and its entourage will be removed.
| Jumbo-Visma signs Nathan Van Hooydonck
Nathan Van Hooydonck will join Jumbo-Visma next season on a two-year deal.
The versatile 24-year-old Belgian has been with the BMC/CCC organization since turning pro there in 2017, and he will likely play a role for his new team in the Classics.
| Kangert headed to Mitchelton-Scott
Tanel Kangert has signed a two-year deal to join Mitchelton-Scott next season after two years with EF.
The 33-year-old Estonian is a veteran stage racing talent who counts an overall win at the Abu Dhabi Tour on his career palmares in addition to having helped support Vincenzo Nibali to multiple Grand Tour wins during their time together at Astana.
| Warbasse positive for coronavirus after Il Lombardia
AG2R La Mondiale has announced that former US road champ Larry Warbasse tested positive for coronavirus after Il Lombardia. The team has said that Warbasse is asymptomatic.
As a precautionary measure, AG2R pulled riders who raced with Warbasse at Lombardia out of the Tour du Limousin and French nationals. None of the team’s Tour long list participated in the Italian one-day.
| Wackermann wins the Tour du Limousin
Luca Wackermann sealed Vini Zabù-KTM’s first stage race victory of the season on Friday, finishing safely on the final stage of the Tour du Limousin to wrap up the overall title. Jake Stewart took GC runner-up honors in the four-day French race, with Rui Costa rounding out the podium.
Alessandro Fedeli won the fourth and final stage ahead of Costa and Joel Suter.
| Garcia, Bilbao nab Spanish time trial titles
Mavi Garcia and Pello Bilbao rode to national titles in the time trial on Friday.
Garcia claimed her second career national TT title with a dominant performance that saw her finishing 1:46 ahead of runner-up Sara Martin. Sheyla Gutiérrez took third in the women’s race.
In the men’s race, Bilbao bested Luis León Sanchez by 36 seconds, with Gorka Izagirre rounding out the podium in third.
| Labous, Cavagna take French TT titles
Juliette Labous and Rémi Cavagna are France’s new national time trial champions.
Labous rode to narrow victory in the women’s race, finishing the 28.4-kilometer course in 41:13 to top Audrey Cordon-Ragot by five seconds. Aude Biannic took third, 1:32 down on Labous.
Cavagna won a similarly close race on the men’s side. Over a 43.6-kilometer course, he was six seconds faster than last year’s winner Benjamin Thomas. Bruno Armirail was third, 1:07 down.
| Longo Borghini, Ganna win Italian TT titles
Over in Italy, Elisa Longo Borghini rode to her fourth career national time trial title while Filippo Ganna took his second.
Longo Borghini took the win nine seconds ahead of Vittoria Bussi with Vittoria Guazzini in third.
Ganna was 50 seconds faster than Alessandro De Marchi, with Edoardo Affini in third on the day.
| 2021 Herald Sun Tour cancelled
Due to “the uncertainty and unpredictability caused by the impact of COVID-19,” organizers have called off the 2021 Herald Sun Tour.
“We have not taken this decision lightly, however the high level of uncertainty created by the current COVID-19 environment in Victoria presents too many challenges to proceed with the 2021 events,” said race chairman Tom Salom.
“We appreciate the support of Visit Victoria and Cycling Australia, who understand the rationale behind our decision and have indicated their continued support for both events, and for the return of the events to the cycling calendar in 2022.”
