229 km on a time trial bike: Breaking a 60-year-old record

Bike technology, training techniques, and even the road network have changed a lot in the last 60 years, but the start and finish lines remain the same.

With the help of a dedicated support team, specifically optimised bike and kit, and the all-important weather gods, we set out to attempt Morris Foster’s record for cycling between Derry and Dublin set in 1964. The record links two major cities on the island of Ireland and stood at 6 hour 26 minutes. Could it be broken?
