For the first time it’s a five-stage race, the Dubai Tour 2017 scheduled from 31 January to 4 February is significantly longer: a total of 865km, 28% more than the 2016 edition, and the peloton will ride through six different Emirates: Dubai (of course!), then Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

10 UCI WorldTeams, 4 UCI Professional Continental Teams, 1 UCI Continental Team and a UAE National Selection team will be at the start. Each team at the start of the Dubai Tour will consist of eight riders.

Blue Jersey

General Classification: worn by the overall winner, the rider who has proven to be the fastest and most consistent over the five stages. In 2016 the blue jersey was won by Marcel Kittel (photo above). Sponsor: Commercial Bank of Dubai

Red Jersey

Points Classification: worn by the fastest sprinter, who has obtained the best positions in each stage and intermediate sprint. The red jersey was also won by Marcel Kittel, winner of two of four stages. Sponsor: Emirates

White Jersey

Young Rider Classification: worn by the best U25 young rider in the overall classification, the name to watch out for in the future. In 2016 this jersey was won by the Moroccan Soufiane Haddi. Sponsor: RTA (Roads and Transport Authority)

UAE Flag Jersey

Intermediate Sprint Classification: worn by the rider who gained more Intermediate Sprint Points than any other rider. Last year’s winner was the Pole Marcin Bialoblocki. Sponsor: DHA (Dubai Health Authority)
