No-compromises, cyclocross suit
Cyclocross is all about going all out, running dismounts, flying remounts, and pedaling no matter what – snow, rain, mud. It takes a special breed of rider, and equipment, to thrive. Partnering with some of the best CX athletes in the world, including Team Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com, gave us the ideal proving ground to make the most innovative cyclocross apparel to date.
With the ‘Cross Sanremo Speed Suit, we’ve incorporated all the features of our best racewear in this no-compromises cyclocross speedsuit. The SanRemo construction frees you from bib straps while giving you an open front for maximum ventilation. The lightly fleeced top portion provides the extra warmth you need in frosty or wet conditions.
Stand up in a typical road / time trial skinsuit and the zipper starts to pull. The bottom of the zipper is the most common area of failure, leading to tears or the hidden zipper coming apart. The Castelli’s Cyclocross Suit, a jersey-and-shorts combo, the upper part is essentially a full zip jersey with an improved fit is designed to enhance range of motion dynamics unique to this demanding discipline. Details include a longer center front and more shoulder room for off the bike flexibility when running or negotiating terrain.
Jersey and shorts combo: the single-piece construction of the Body Paint shorts makes for a compression-like fit while the light-weight thermal Aero Race jersey with ¾-lenght sleeves will take off the chill once you get up to speed, and is intended for 5°C degrees or below.
The jersey overlap the shorts and are sewn at the waist three quarters of the way around leaving the front, middle quarter open. This allows for a full zip jersey that has absolutely no pesky front folding when you’re in the riding position. The aero fabric insert under arms allows for temperature regulation and more shoulder room for off the bike flexibility when running or negotiating terrain.
No hidden zipper – it’s a fat YKK® Vislon® zipper with a large pull tab that easily can be grabbed with muddy gloves in the heat of battle. The overlapping fabric over the edges of the zipper keep dirt and gunk out. Rather than standard or raglan sleeves, the stitching is at a 45-degree angle for increased range of motion and running with the bike.
The seam is placed further on the back rather than across the top of your shoulder, so there’s nothing digging in when shouldering the bike.
The quick drying KISS3 seatpad is moved back further, to keep it from catching on your saddle when remounting. Unlike most seat pads, the KISS3 pad features a continuously variable thickness, while the brushed microfiber cover cuts down on chafing. KISS3 does exactly what a good seatpad should do: you forget that it’s there. A higher neck provides extra warmth and protection from detritus on nasty days.
The cyclocross-specific race and training suit is available in black color, or through the Custom Team program, serviziocorse.com.
