Haussler back on track with Tour de Suisse stage win
Heinrich Haussler’s huge grin as he powered across the finish line of stage two of the Tour de Suisse said it all. After a rough spell in the Classics and the Tour of California when he was sidelined by a knee injury, a victory for his Cervélo squad in the team’s biggest home race was just of result the 26-year-old needed prior to the Tour de France.
The 167 kilometer long second stage of Tour de Suisse from Ascona to Sierre ended in a duel among the sprinters where Haussler (Cervelo) turned out to be strongest of the bunch. The single category 1 climb on the stretch appearently was not enough to drop all the sprinters.
“It’s a real liberation,” Haussler said, “My early season was wrecked this year because of the knee injury and this has finally set things straight again.”
