Ramunas Navardauskas (Garmin-Sharp) soloed to victory on stage 11 of the Giro d’Italia, while his team-mate, Tyler Farrar, only hours after, gave the team double the reason to celebrate winning stage 4 of Amgen Tour of California.

Lithuania’s Navardauskas was part of a long-distance break of 20 through the Dolomites before he dropped his closest pursuer, Daniel Oss,  five kilometers from the finish line, to claim his first Grand Tour stage victory.

“Today was the ideal course for me,” said Navardauskas, “It was too hard for the sprinters but the climbs weren’t too hard for me”.

America’s Farrar was a clear winner in Santa Barbara over US criterium champion Ken Hanson (Optum), and Belgian Gianni Meersman (Omega Pharma) third.

“It was a huge morale boost,” Farrar said. “It’s awesome for the team and for him. It’s pretty cool that we were able to double up today.”
