What Mentorship Looks Like: Skiers Rachael Burks, Megan Dingman Star in ‘Open Doors’

What does it take to be a professional skier? As one of the sport’s modern trailblazers, Rachael Burks knows a thing or two about making an impact.

Now a generation ahead of the latest ski pros, Burks has the opportunity to leave her mark in another way — through her mentorship. “Growing up, my parents always told me to keep as many doors open to the future as possible,” she shared.

So, when up-and-coming female freeskier Megan Dingman called Rachael Burks asking for some direction in her career, the seasoned vet didn’t hesitate. “I just knew I wanted to help her in any way I could.” And Dingman lapped up every bit of advice Burks had to offer.

“I tried to ski as many days as possible. I woke up early … skied with people that were better than me, learned new skills in avi terrain, and I just tried to appreciate every moment of it,” Dingman said. “We’re so lucky to be there.”

This short film follows the triumphs and endearing misadventures of two women crushing snowpack. Enjoy!
