This Black Friday Is the Best Time to Upgrade Your Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bags are a big investment. But Black Friday sales present one of the best times of the year to save big on sleeping bags.
I bought my first high-quality down sleeping bag in the late 1990s while working as a salesperson at Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis. That sleeping bag, a Marmot Pinnacle with 600-fill down, took me nearly 6 months to save for, even with a substantial discount.
Nearly 30 years since, do I regret the investment? Hell, no! That sleeping bag is in my gear cave today, and I still sleep in it dozens of nights a year. At this point, it’s one of the best investments of my life.
The point is, a really good down sleeping bag is one of the best investments you’ll ever make in outdoor gear. And accordingly, they are, well, expensive.
So with Black Friday sales rolling around, I scoured the web for some fantastic deals. Get one for a friend you really, really like. Or, just grab one for yourself and be comfortable for the next, oh, 40 years.
Black Friday Sleeping Bag Deals
I started out by finding some early deals. Score these if you can, as who knows what will happen with supply chains these days. And check back next week, as I’ll update this story as more deals come online.
Also note, I focused on down sleeping bags here. I highly prefer down sleeping bags, as they have the highest warmth-to-weight ratio available.
They also compress better than synthetic sleeping bags and last basically forever. But if you use a bag in persistently wet conditions, or prefer a vegan product for any number of reasons, there are also many deals on synthetic bags now, too.

Rab Mythic Ulta 360 Sleeping Bag (20 degrees F): 25% Off
The Rab Mythic Ultra is a fabulous sleeping bag. We’ve tested it extensively and love the featherweight design stuffed with incredibly high-quality 900-fill down. It packs down tiny, weighs just 1.53 ounces, and will keep you warm down to about 20 degrees.
This is one of the more premium sleeping bags you can buy, and carries with it a hefty $650 price tag. But wait! Thanks to Black Friday, it’s priced down to $487. Still pricy? Yes, but worth it. Care for it well, and it should still work great in 2062.
Mountain Equipment Helium 800 Women’s Sleeping Bag: 45% Off
This deal is pretty bonkers. The Helium 800 is rated to 9 degrees F. Mountain Equipment packs it with 700-fill down, which is, while not quite top shelf, darned good.
It weighs in at 2 pounds 11 ounces, and will be an ideal piece in your backpack for cooler hikes. While this brand is a little lesser known, it’s a great value. And for $228, you are getting a lot of bang for not many bucks.
It’s worth noting, Backcountry and REI both have many Mountain Equipment sleeping bags on sale. So if you’re looking for a different warmth rating, or even a synthetic bag, shop the sales and find your perfect bag.
Big Agnes Torchlight 20-Degree Sleeping Bag: 25% Off
The Big Agnes Torchlight is another wonderful sleeping bag. Packed with 600-fill DownTech water-resistant down, the Torchlight is a solid mid-tier sleeping bag backed by an excellent brand.
In fact, our editors have used and abused many Big Agnes bags and have been consistently impressed by the brand’s comfort and durability. If you’re looking for a very solid choice in bags at a reasonable price, this one is low-risk and will serve you well for years to come.
REI Co-op Down Time 25 Down Sleeping Bag: 30% Off
The REI Co-op Down Time 25 is a very nice 600-fill-down sleeping bag. It aims to hit a good price and do pretty much everything most campers want.
It’ll keep you warm on cool nights into the 20s. It packs small enough for backpacking. It’s light enough (2.5 to just over 3 pounds) to not weigh you down, yet it is durable enough to last for decades.
REI checks a lot of boxes with this bag, and at $160 on sale, you’ll be hard-pressed to get more value from a sleeping bag.
