The Race Is on: Leadville Series Opens Lottery for Runners, MTB
The 2021 lottery for the famed Leadville Race Series is now open.
The state of public events and gatherings due to COVID-19 is still very uncertain. But that isn’t stopping some race organizations from safety bringing back events this summer.
“We’re stoked to announce that the lottery for the 2021 event is officially open!” Leadville’s PR spokesperson shared. The Leadville Race Series consists of the Leadville Trail 100 and Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB.
If you’re looking for a 10K or marathon distance, Leadville’s got that too.
The lottery system is open until Feb. 15, 2021. Lottery winners will be notified on Feb. 23, 2021.
Leadville Trail Series: More Info
Leadville is the highest town in the United States, sitting at 10,152 feet. The Leadville Race Series began in 1983 with just 45 runners in an epic 100-mile footrace. Since then, Leadville has hosted thousands of runners and cyclists.
The Leadville 100 Run course covers 100 miles over extreme and rocky terrain, from elevations of 9,200 to 12,600 feet. The race is notably difficult due to the combination of elevation, distance, and terrain. There are 13 aid stations along the course, and time cutoffs apply if you’re looking to make it to the podium.
The 100 MTB course also covers 100 miles, and you can apply to participate as an individual, tandem, or as a group. Cutoff times also apply.
The Leadville Trail 100 MTB is scheduled for Aug. 14, 2021, and the Leadville Trail 100 Run is scheduled for Aug. 21-22, 2021.
