‘The Bicentennial Project’: Christy Mahon to Ski Colorado’s 200 Highest Peaks

Christy Mahon has summitted and skied all 58 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado. Then she did the same on the 100 highest peaks in the state. And she’s just getting started.

Enter Colorado native Christy Mahon: part skier, part climber, and full-time adventurer. Mahon has already achieved a lot but is pushing her love for skiing tall mountains even further.

In 2010, Mahon became the seventh person and the first woman to ski all of Colorado’s 14ers.

Six years later, she, her husband Ted, and her friend Chris Davenport became the first people to summit and ski Colorado’s 100 highest peaks. They earned a nomination for the National Geographic’s Adventurers of the Year Award in the process.

In 2021, Mahon plans to keep conquering summits and skiing them on the way down, with the next 100 highest peaks in the state. (The top 200 highest peaks are known as the Bicentennials.)

“I think I keep going back to the mountains because it’s a place to feel a little unattached, a little wild,” Mahon said. She hopes to be done with this next goal in under 5 years. If you’re curious just how impressive (and how much skiing) that is, we recommend watching the short film.
