TGR Explores Small Towns and Indy Ski Resorts ‘In Pursuit of Soul’
Usually known for big, bold, and exotic ski films, Teton Gravity Research plans to highlight small-town mountains in its upcoming winter 2021 film project.
Teton Gravity’s latest project isn’t your run-of-the-mill seasonal ski film. The media production company just partnered with the multi-mountain Indy Pass to “explore the spirit of independent ski and snowboard areas.”
Titled “In Pursuit of Soul,” the project is a combination of digital and social storytelling. And TGR filmed at 12 independent resorts, many of which sound like something out of a fantasy — with names like Magic Mountain and Lost Trail.
These aren’t major mountain corporations — they’re local, not-for-profit, and family-owned ski hills. And they may just be worth a visit. Small, scrappy, local, more affordable — there are some great reasons to ski small.
“While our annual films typically focus on big mountains and more exotic destinations, the exciting part of working on a project like ‘In Pursuit of Soul’ is that it lets us showcase a different side of the industry,” said TGR co-founder Steve Jones.
Of the 61 independent resorts that are part of the Indy Pass, the TGR crew filmed at 12 total locations across the American East and West for the project:
- Berkshire East
- Bolton Valley
- Cannon Mountain
- Black Mountain
- Saddleback Ski Mountain
- Magic Mountain
- 49 Degrees North Mountain
- Beaver Mountain
- Brundage Mountain
- Lost Trail Powder Mountain
- Mission Ridge
- Snow King Mountain
