State Breaks Into Electric With the Single-Speed 6061 eBike
State Bicycle Co. jumps into the e-bike market with a single-speeder.
Meet the 6061 ‘single-speed’ eBike Commuter. It comes in a low-key matte black and shares the same geometry as State’s original city bikes.
And with its base price of $1,500 MSRP, the 6061 eBike is, admittedly, one of the least expensive electric commuters on the market today.
Plus, the e-bike’s motor and electric components are stealthy as hell. Try locating the motor (or the battery, for that matter). Does this puppy look like it has any more tech to it than an old-school commuter bike? Because the folks at State could have fooled me.
Here’s what else you should know.
State Bicycle 6061 Single-Speed eBike
The 6061 eBike Commuter’s motor can achieve up to 20 miles per hour.
In terms of oomph, the electric rig offers five pedal assistance levels or “gears.” Range varies according to use, but if you crank that assist up all the way, expect around 21 miles of power. On the lowest assist level, that range jumps up to about 100 miles, State says.
Or, if you find yourself in a work-for-it mood, kill the motor and switch over to the bike’s single-speed drive train.
All the essential information (battery life, mileage, speed, gear, etc.) is visible on the bike’s handlebar-mounted LCD computer. The compact thumb-action controller sits adjacent to the display for quick calibration and mode control.
Once you’ve cashed the battery, just plug the bike into a standard outlet for 3.5 hours.
A 5-year warranty covers the bike’s frame; an 18-month warranty covers the e-bike’s battery, electronics, and motor; and a one-year warranty covers other nonconsumable parts.
