Running the North Fork River: Classic Class V Lines With Nouria Newman

Nouria Newman uploaded an impressive clip last month of some whitewater. ‘A few lines on the North Fork Payette …’ she noted. A few massive whitewater lines.

French whitewater kayaker Nouria Newman is no stranger to big waves, and big drops.

This November, she captured a quick video while running a section of the North Fork River, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. All those paddlers looking for some year-round/winter inspiration: look no further.

The water is roaring, the waves are splashing, and yet Nouria seems to conquer Class V with ease.

About the North Fork River

This section of the North Fork of the Payette (near Banks, Idaho) is considered big-water Class V. While it may be a backyard playground for a lucky few, it’s known around the world for its epic, challenging rapids.

It also serves as the location for the North Fork Championship, one of the most challenging whitewater competitions in the world.

The river flows throughout the year, and has an average flow of 1,299 CFS, but can spike to 8,000+ CFS.
