Polaris Recalls 13,000 Snowmobiles for ‘Stuck Throttle’ Defect

Polaris has voluntarily recalled multiple varieties of 2022 model-year snowmobiles.

Last week, Minnesota-based Polaris issued a recall of more than 11,000 snowmobiles across the United States and Canada (13,300 globally). According to the brand, the throttle release switch could fail to disengage when the operator lets off the throttle, preventing the vehicle from slowing down.

“[I]t can lead to loss of vehicle control, posing a crash hazard,” Polaris said in the recall.

Additionally, the throttle cable could kink on certain 2022 MATRYX RMK Polaris snowmobile models, which could lead to damage and throttle malfunction.

This recall involves only certain VINs of 2022 MATRYX RMK, INDY, SWITCHBACK, VOYAGEUR, and NORDIC PRO snowmobiles in the following color combinations: black/titanium, red/black, blue/white/red, black/gray/blue, gray/lime, red/black/white, navy/silver/white, white/black/plum, tan/black/orange, gray/black/lime, gray/black/red, orange, black, and jade.

To date, owners have reported four incidents of kinked throttle cables and three incidents of stuck throttles. The recalled vehicles haven’t caused any reported injuries yet.

Affected sleds retailed at Polaris dealers throughout the U.S. from December 2019 through January 2022 for between $13,300 and $19,700.

In total, Polaris said about 7,400 snowmobiles sold in the U.S. are included in the recall as well as about 3,647 sold in Canada.

To see if your snowmobile falls within this recall, enter your sled’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the Polaris Off-Road Safety Recall page.

The VIN will be printed on the right side of the tunnel. And customers can find the model name along both sides of the chassis.

Polaris urges owners of all affected sleds to contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free inspection. If necessary, a dealer can perform an adjustment to remedy the problem. For the MATRYX RMK, a replacement part can repair the problem.

You can call Polaris at 1-800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. Read more about this issue on the official Polaris recall page.
