Ocean Garbage to Dry Bag: GOT BAG Offers Sustainable Sack

Dry bags must be waterproof. While many on market have gone PVC-free, GOT BAG’s dry bag is also PFC-free, fully recycled ocean plastic, and still claims to perform.

GOT BAG isn’t just making another recycled-material bag. That’s been done. This time around, it’s making a technical dry bag, completely built from plastics recycled from the ocean.

We were first introduced to GOT BAG as a brand at Outdoor Retailer several years ago. The brand’s entire goal is to reduce the amount of plastic used to create gear, like bags.

“Of the newly produced plastics worldwide, 79% end up in nature,” reads GOT BAG’s website. The German startup GOT BAG developed the world’s first backpacks made of ocean plastic in 2020.

It partners directly with a network of fishermen in Indonesia to funnel the bycatch plastic into materials it can use in production. Everything — from PP and HDPE plastics to PET plastics — gets broken down and used or recycled further.

GOT BAG Goes Waterproof

The GOT DRY BAG provides a “spacious” volume of waterproof storage for a variety of uses. The DRY BAG has a volume of 32 L, high-frequency welded seams, and rolltop closure with a folding lip.

The bag also has a padded grab handle and a removable and adjustable shoulder strap. The design is nothing special, but its construction is.

The bag is 100% recycled Ocean Impact Plastic, sourced from not only oceans but also rivers and coastal areas in Indonesia. It’s free of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. Being PFC-free is especially impressive, given that PFCs are frequently used in waterproofing gear. Its buckles and straps also contain recycled materials.
