Nissan Announces World’s-First All Electric ‘Pole to Pole’ Overland Expedition
This epic driving adventure will begin in 2023 and span from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in a Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE.
On May 24, 2022, Nissan revealed its “Pole to Pole” expedition, an all-electric driving adventure that will span from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole, covering over 16,750 miles in the trek.
Chris Ramsey — a British adventurer known for his all-electric pursuits and the founder of the Pole to Pole expedition — is partnering with Nissan for the mission.
Set to depart in March 2023, this expedition will venture from the Arctic through North, Central, and South America. Then, it will cross into Antarctica.
The First Time
The expedition is the world’s first driving attempt of its kind. Because of this, Ramsey will be the first person to drive a vehicle pole to pole, regardless of its fuel system.
“We’re proud to announce our partnership with Chris Ramsey and the Pole to Pole expedition team,” said Nissan Executive VP Asako Hoshino, global head of marketing and sales.
“The all-new, all-electric Ariya crossover SUV enables you to go further, easier, and in comfort. And with e-4ORCE control technology providing enhanced stability and traction on a variety of surfaces, we know it will be the perfect partner for Chris and his team on their challenging all-electric journey.”
Ramsey and his team will be traveling in a modified Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE. The Ariya e-4ORCE will be kitted out with a custom rugged exterior, upgraded wheels, tires, and suspension to prepare for the expedition.
Nissan’s Electric e-4ORCE
According to Nissan’s press release, the e-4ORCE is Nissan’s “most advanced all-wheel control technology that accurately manages power output and braking performance for smoothness and stability.
“The system enhances driver confidence by tracing the intended driving line over a variety of road surfaces, including wet and snowy roads, without the need for changes in driving style or input,” continues the release.
The pursuit aims to support Nissan Ambition 2030. Nissan’s long-term vision is to empower mobility and beyond with the electrification of vehicles.
“Our mission is to show that electric vehicles can tackle the harshest of environments — from the bitter cold of the poles to the hot and humid jungles of South America, and illustrate that they are exhilarating to drive whilst meeting the daily demands of drivers around the world,” said Chris Ramsey.
“It’s fantastic to see such an important and innovative global brand partner with our expedition.”
