Largest Female-Centric Surf Event, ‘Super Girl Surf Pro,’ Returns This September

The biggest names in women’s surfing will go head-to-head this September in the world’s largest female surf event: Super Girl Surf Pro.

More than 90 of the world’s best female surfers will come together in September for a nationally televised contest and festival.

The 16th annual Super Girl Surf Pro kicks off in Oceanside, Calif., on Sept. 16. This 3-day event includes a world-class surf competition, a festival village with vendors and activities, and many musical performances. It’s also free to attend.

Many of the sport’s biggest stars will compete. They include surfing icon Bethany Hamilton, Olympian Carissa Moore, and her Olympic teammate Caroline Marks. Former Super Girl Champions will also hit the waves, including Lakey Peterson, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Coco Ho, Sage Erickson, Courtney Conlogue, Caitlin Simmers, Alyssa Spencer, and Samantha Sibley.

Super Girl will also feature an elite-level women’s longboarding competition with 48 of the top female pros and up-and-coming stars. World Champions Honolua Blomfield, Summer Romero, Soleil Errico, and Jen Smith will headline the field alongside 2021 Super Girl Longboarding Champion Kirra Seale.

Beyond the Surf, How to Watch

In addition to righteous female surfers, Super Girl Surf Pro offers many other female-centric events.

For starters, it wouldn’t be Super Girl without a music festival. Attendees can expect 15 bands, including The Offspring, Smash Mouth, and Hoobastank. The Expendables and Kira Kosarin will also perform.

The event celebrates female talent in many forms, including what it calls the only “female-driven esports tournament in the U.S.” There’s also the all-female DJ competition and women’s beach soccer tournament.

Attendees can also take part in free fitness classes like yoga, Zumba, pilates, and dance. There are also panel discussions, a female art exhibition, and a mentorship event for young surfers with five-time World Champion Carissa Moore.

The event was developed “as a celebration of female strength and empowerment,” Super Girl organizers wrote.

“The platform has grown into a series of incredible festivals centered around providing social, athletic, cultural, educational, business, and entertainment opportunities for young women in areas where they are traditionally underrepresented,” according to the website.

Even if you can’t make it to Cali for the event, you can still stream the event online. Watch it live on Sept. 17-18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. Streaming options include www.supergirlsurfpro.com and twitch.tv/supergirlseries.
