La Sportiva Gets Greener With the TX Hike Mid GTX Hiking Boots
More eco-friendly materials give the La Sportiva TX Hike Mid GTX boots a smaller carbon footprint while propelling you across rough terrain.
La Sportiva designed the TX Hike Mid GTX to support like a boot and move like a trail running shoe. The midsole and outsole are designed to stabilize while the wide fit and EVA midsole are made with quicker steps in mind.
These lace-up, over-the-ankle hiking boots are made with sustainable materials, according to the brand. From the laces and upper to the outsole, these boots use 15-30% recycled materials.

La Sportiva says it makes these boots from a bevy of materials from popular brands that have incorporated eco-friendly components.
First, there’s the recycled upper mesh, laces, and nylon webbing. Then there’s a Bluesign-certified GORE-TEX waterproof lining that contains recycled material as well as recycled content incorporated into the midsole and outsole.
Of course, these materials may play second fiddle to how well the boot fits or performs. We didn’t test these, but we can see where La Sportiva incorporated designs from its other footwear to create the TX Hike Mid GTX.
For instance, the recycled AirMesh upper draws from the brand’s mountain running line of shoes. The TX Hike last is a roomier version of the TXS last, with a wider fit around the midfoot and forefoot. And the lacing harness draws inspiration from the brand’s Trango Tech GTX mountaineering boot.
Underfoot, the TX Hike Mid GTX has a heel stabilizer for torsional support, and the molded EVA midsole also has a stabilizing insole. There’s a TPU toe cap for protection, and the Vibram Ecostep EVO outsoles with 5mm lugs sport an “Impact Brake System” in the back of the heel to grip on the downhills.
