Handmade Hardtail: Mosaic Unveils Titanium MT-2 Mountain Bike
Mosaic sought to build an up-to-date mountain bike for ‘playful, fast’ riding. To do it, it deployed a new streamlined production model with fast turnaround times.
If you want a handmade bike, somebody has to make it by hand. That takes time — sometimes, quite a lot of it. But if you want Mosaic’s titanium MT-2 mountain bike, you should be in for a shorter wait.
The MT-2 is the latest Mosaic dish, and looks like every bit of a clean, titanium hardtail. Mosaic built it as a go-anywhere bike with size-specific straight gauge tubing, clearance for 29 x 2.6” tires, and, notably for the traditionally gravel-minded brand, a 120mm Fox fork.
And thanks to its “Batch Built” program, you could see it in as little as 2 weeks after you put in your order.
Under the Batch Built model, Mosaic uses in-house stock frame sizes to speed up delivery turnaround. The idea is to let the company’s fabricators get a head start on orders.
Mosaic said it’s already got a handful of MT-2 frames waiting in the wings, in sizes S, M, L, and XL.
It’s not quite a custom, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a shorter wait for a handmade bike.
Mosaic MT-2, GT-2 45 ‘Batch Built’
The MT-2 gets ENVE wheels, a dropper post, and 1x gearing. Once you decide on a size, you can pick from component groupset options and opt for a raw finish or a Mosaic paint layout.
See the chart below for full specs and numbers.
And Mosaic’s traditional Made to Order program remains in play: you can order any Mosaic ride with fully custom geometry, including the MT-2.
The hardtail arrives alongside another new offering that’s also part of the Batch Built program. The GT-2 45 gravel bike comes in 7 sizes from 48-60cm with spec including drop bars, an ENVE fork, and a Shimano GRX groupset.
Just like with the MT-2, you can choose from a range of groupset and finish options and see it in 2-4 weeks.
Mosaic builds all its titanium bikes by hand at its Boulder, Colo., facility. Pricing for the Mosaic MT-2 frame starts at $4,200 MSRP, and the GT-2 45 starts at $4,500. Both are available starting today, through the brand’s worldwide dealer network.
