Garmin Publishes Children’s Book to Embrace Next-Gen ‘Women of Adventure’

Garmin wants to inspire all Women of Adventure — past, present, and future — with its new children’s book.

This week, Garmin announced its very own children’s book. Inspired by the sports brand’s Women of Adventure initiative, the book, titled “Women of Adventure: Being Big in a Brave World,” features stories from six female athletes who embrace adventure.

“[The book] inspires the next generation of bold females to dream big, try new things and never give up,” Garmin wrote. And with tales in sports like BASE jumping, paddleboarding, and running, it sounds like it will be a pretty engaging read.

The women featured include five-time U.S. Champion triathlete Patricia Walsh, wingsuit pilot and BASE jumper Steph Davis, and rock climber Shelma Jun, along with Mirna Valerio, Jenny Kalmbach, and Rebecca Rusch.

Written and illustrated by Garmin associates, the book shares the traits that make each woman unique, and it touches on the science behind their sports and passions.

Besides stories, the book also has an interactive component. Each story includes an “Explore” page that teaches readers about wayfinding, geology, ecology, and more.

“Representing a diversity of ages, body types, activities and ethnicities, the book demonstrates inclusivity in the outdoors, and teaches kids that they can do whatever they set their mind to,” said Rebecca Sommers, author and creative director at Garmin. “As a mother, it was important to me to share [stories of] exemplary role models.”
