Ford Recalls Nearly 65,000 Mavericks for Airbag Malfunctions

The latest recall from Ford involves about 65,000 Mavericks from the 2022 model year. These brand-new pickup trucks may have an airbag issue.

Ford announced another recall on Aug. 8 after discovering an airbag issue in its latest model of the Maverick. The vehicle’s side-curtain airbags may not deploy properly, the carmaker said.

Ford estimated that the recall involves 64,974 vehicles, according to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Owners of the 2022 Maverick can expect free repairs from Ford, which said it will start notifying them on Sept. 22. The NFTSA has required side-curtain airbags for all vehicles since 2013. Their primary role is to protect the head in a crash.

The remedy is straightforward: “Dealers will replace the left and right side-curtain air bag modules with a new design, free of charge.”

If you own a Maverick, you’ll want to check to see if your vehicle is affected.

Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 22C20. Alternatively, owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Ford Airbag Recall Not the First

Unfortunately for Ford owners, this isn’t the first recall on Ford vehicles this year.

In June, Ford announced a recall of nearly 3 million vehicles affected by a problem with gear shifting. The problem could lead to drivers parking the car when it’s actually in a different gear. That could allow the car to roll away when parked.

Ford has also announced several other recalls in recent weeks. It issued a recall for nearly 1,000 model year 2022 Lincoln Aviators and Ford Explorers on June 24. Then another recall came on July 7, when Ford said about 100,000 vehicles could have a cooling issue resulting in an engine compartment fire.
