First Lite Western Big-Game Pants: Find the Right Fit for Your Hunting Season
First Lite hunting pants come in several camo styles and different cuts to fit the conditions of your season.
There’s no need to overthink hunting pants. But with so many options, you may as well find the perfect fit for how you hunt.
Jump in below, and we’ll walk you through a quick and easy guide to First Lite’s pants. These range from sleek cuts for early-season hunts to lined pants with reinforced fronts to keep you comfortable stalking on the ground.
Pick Your Game
First Lite has built out its line of pants with several camouflage patterns available on most of its styles. The majority of the brand’s gear is based on Western big-game hunts, and you’ll find patterns to match seasonal outings.
Even if you’re a generalist that prefers pants with a simple earth tone, First Lite has you covered.
A more game-specific line is the brand’s Whitetail apparel. The new, proprietary pattern takes a two-pronged approach to breaking up patterns from near and far. Eastern deer hunters looking for gear should start here and then decide between the Regular and Foundry versions based on their needs.
And waterfowl is a whole different animal. First Lite’s Waterfowl line introduced the brand’s Typha camo pattern, and its apparel is designed around the colder, wetter conditions of winter.
2 Versions: Regular or Foundry?
In short, there are two versions of most First Lite pants: regular and Foundry.
If you prefer sleeker, less-complicated pants and are more weight-conscious, choose the regular cut.
If you need knee pads plus the durability to withstand contact with the ground or rocks, go with a Foundry pant. You’ll also recognize the Foundry pants by their reinforced nylon chap panels on the front and in the seat.
Lastly, there’s the Sawbuck Brush Pant, a great option for thicket and nasty brush country. (Note that these pants have only one version — without knee pads.)
First Lite Pants
Obsidian & Obsidian Foundry Pant: From $170
The Obisidian pant uses wool to help it offer warmth and breathability during the big temperature swings of early-to-midseason hunts. That makes them an option for stationary and active hunts as well.
Sections of nylon are used to add some flex and reinforcements in key areas. If you’re familiar with the Kanab 2.0 of yore, this pant continues that tradition. The fit is based on the Corrugate Guide Pants.
Of course, wool is naturally breathable, odor-resistant, and still provides warmth if it gets wet. Hunters should note that there’s no reported UV shine from the merino wool, either.

Corrugate Guide Pant & Corrugate Foundry Pant — Men’s: From $145
First Lite drew inspiration from climbing and mountaineering pants to create these nylon stretch pants with an emphasis on movement. The Corrugate Guide pants are made for midseason hunts and come with 3D double cargo pockets, options for a belt or suspenders, and a DWR finish to shed precipitation.
As above, the Foundry versions have reinforced knees and seats, side vents, and removable knee pads.

Catalyst & Catalyst Foundry Pant: From $210
The Catalyst Soft Shell Pants have two layers for late-season hunts. Inside, there’s a 37.5 fleece lining for breathable insulation. Outside, a quiet ripstop with stretch lets the pants move with you. And First Lite adds a DWR for light weather protection.
The Foundry versions have nylon panels in the front and seat, full-length side zips, and removable knee pads.

Sawbuck Brush Pant — Men’s: From $150
OK, here’s a slight exception. There’s only one version because these borrow features from the brand’s Corrugate and Foundry pants.
To help the Sawbucks hold up through the thick brush, there are nylon chap panels and triple-needle reinforced stitching. For mobility, there’s four-way-stretch nylon throughout and articulated knees. On top of that, there are both belt and suspender loops and a DWR finish.
But you won’t find knee pads here.
