Every Model Year 2023 Manual-Transmission Car, Truck, and SUV
Want a car with a manual transmission? Here’s what’s available in the U.S. in 2023.
Truth be told, manual-transmission cars are a rare breed these days. Given that there’s no substitute for that connected feeling when rowing through the gears yourself, it’s worth seeking out what’s still available with a manual gearbox on the U.S. market today.
Fortunately, they’re not dead yet. So, look no further if you’re wondering which vehicles still come with a stick shift and three pedals.
While your average commuter will hardly appreciate it, there are still purists that prefer the stick shift for its simplicity and engagement. Here is a complete list of all the model year 2023 manual-transmission cars, trucks, and SUVs.
Just remember, get them while you can!
(Jump to the bottom if you just want the raw list without the specifics.)
U.S. 2023 Manual-Transmission Cars
Acura
Integra A-Spec
After a 17-year hiatus, the Acura Integra has returned and kept some semblance of its high-performance roots with a rev-happy 200-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four tied to a quick shifter with short, meaningful throws. Exclusive to the ranging topping A-Spec performance package is a rev-matching six-speed manual that is always spot-on the money with every gear change.
BMW
M2
The newest generation of the M2 built on the G87 chassis is once again intended to provide maximum performance. It has a more distinctive appearance, a specially tuned chassis, and a twin-turbocharged inline-six tuned to 453 horsepower. Staying true to its performance values, the 2023 M2 has rear-wheel drive and a standard six-speed manual gearbox.
M3
Say what you will about the front kidney grills on the BMW M3, there’s no denying that the standard six-speed manual transmission is made for driving enthusiasts. That said, BMW configures the M3 sedan with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged S58 inline-six engine producing 473 horsepower in base form or 503 ponies in the Competition model.
It’s the base M3 sedan that gets a manual transmission, as the overachieving M3 Competition only comes standard with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic. The rear-wheel-drive sedan boasts a 3.0L twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, adaptive dampers, and a sports suspension tuned magnificently.
M4
In previous years, BMW offered more options for manual transmissions in its 4 Series lineup. Unfortunately, the G82 platform has reduced offerings with a stick shift. But not all is lost.
One model retaining the manual option is the 2023 M4 coupe, which can be ordered with a six-speed. Similar to the M3, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the third pedal experience every time you get behind the wheel of this fantastic feat of German engineering.
Cadillac
CT4-V Blackwing
The CT4-V is a striking sports sedan that can be outfitted with a six-speed manual. Under its hood, the rear-wheel-drive sedan is powered by a 3.6L turbocharged V6 that makes 472 horsepower.
Cadillac, in an interesting appeal to manual enthusiasts, markets the CT4-V Blackwing as a sedan that is engineered to perform both on the track and as a daily driver — and look good doing it. It’s a surprising choice, but it might be one of the best 2023 manual-transmission cars on the market.
CT5-V Blackwing
If the CT4-V looks like good fun, but you just need more room and more power, step on up to the CT5-V Blackwing. This slightly larger sedan gets outfitted with a 6.2L supercharged V8 that’s good for a whopping 668 horsepower.
And you get hands-on control of all those ponies with a six-speed manual. Not bad for one of Cadillac’s last gasoline-powered performance sedans.
Chevrolet
Camaro
One of America’s most renowned muscle car platforms can still be shifted manually in coupe or convertible configurations. Chevy offers a manual transmission with every Camaro engine choice.
Whether you opt for the 275-horsepower 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, the 335-horsepower 3.6L 6-cylinder, the brawny 455-horsepower 6.2L V8, or the fire-breathing supercharged 650-horsepower ZL1 model, all can be had with a six-speed stick shift.
There’s not a slouch in the bunch, and even the four-banger will sprint to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. And the lightning-fast supercharged LT4 found in the ZL1 will blast to 60 in just 3.5 seconds! If you want plenty of ponies under the hood, the Camaro is one of the best 2023 manual-transmission cars for you.
Spark
Regardless if you’re looking for inexpensive wheels, a frugal commuter, or something in between, the subcompact 2023 Chevy Spark is available with a manual transmission. Making 98 horsepower from its ECOTEC 1.4L four-pot mill, the Spark puts efficient power to the front wheels through an available five-speed manual.
Unlike other carmakers that limit the manual to the lower trim level, the manual is available across all grades. While it isn’t the fastest choice, buyers will have versatility, available bright colors, and up to 38 mpg.
Dodge
Challenger
Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, confirmed that the 2023 model year will be the final one for the current Dodge Charger and Challenger models. The Challenger is Dodge’s answer to the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.
Fulfilling the urge to keep the right hand busy is a manual transmission available with the powerful coupe’s 375-horsepower R/T, 485-horsepower R/T Scat Pack, and tire-melting 717-horsepower SRT Hellcat models.
That Hellcat will get you to 60 mph in the 3-second range and to 100 mph in just over 7 seconds — but only on a racetrack, of course. We hear they can do some sweet burnouts, too. None of the AWD models can be had with the stick shift.
Ford
Mustang
The Mustang is Ford’s legendary entrant into the modern muscle wars. And like any good performance car, it can be shifted manually in every Mustang, coupe, and convertible alike.
This means that the rev-matching Tremec six-speed manual is available with either the turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost I4 or the 5.0L Coyote V8 on the GT and Mach 1 models. The exception falls on the Shelby GT500, which is only available with a seven-speed DCT.
The all-new, seventh-generation 2024 Mustang goes on sale in the U.S. starting in the summer of 2023 and raises the stakes into the modern muscle wars. And like any good muscle car staying true to its heritage, a manual is available.
Such is the case, you can still get a stick shift in the 2024 Mustang GT coupe or convertible. The rev-matching six-speed manual pairs up with the new 5.0L Coyote V8 on the GT models.
Bronco
The 2023 Ford Bronco comes in a wide range of models, and luckily for manual lovers, the retro-modern, adventure-loving SUV comes standard with Ford’s seven-speed manual transmission — complete with crawler gear.
Thanks to the Bronco’s highly customizable build, you can piece together the perfect package starting with whether you want a two-door or four-door version, and go from there. If you prefer stick-shifting your way through your off-road adventures, it’s hard to beat this versatile machine.
Honda
Civic Si
Honda’s Civic has been sold in the U.S. since 1973, and it’s always had a manual option. That doesn’t change some 49 years later. And luckily for 2023, you can opt for either a manual in the Civic Si or the Civic Hatchback.
To get the Civic hatchback with a stick shift, you’ll have to select the Sport or Sport Touring trim level. If a proper trunk is your preference, both Si and Si HPT outfit the sedan with a light-shifting, rev-matching six-speed manual.
Civic Type R
The all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R gets its giddy-up and go from a 315-horsepower 2.0L turbocharged inline-four and a precise six-speed manual transmission. The previous generation Type R is a car that people will still hold dear to their hearts, but this latest generation generates new excitement with added power and a look that is much more elegant.
Overall, it has a smoother, cleaner appearance, with the rear wing taking on a more refined and less aggressive look.
Hyundai
Elantra N
The Veloster was eliminated from Hyundai’s 2023 lineup for the North American market to make room for its electric-powered cars and crossovers. This leaves the 2023 Hyundai Elantra N sedan as the lone wolf with a third pedal. The N Line trim package comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission that has rev-matching.
The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 276 horsepower and has plenty of get-up-and-go. Plus, with a spacious interior, a few sport upgrades, and N Drive Mode (with launch control), the Elantra N delivers on all fronts.
Jeep
Gladiator
Gladiator is Jeep’s pickup offering. It’s powered by a 285-horsepower 3.6L V6 and is connected to a six-speed manual transmission. Nearly all versions, from the basic Sport package to the off-road-capable Rubicon model, feature a manual gearbox with short initial gear ratios.
All include a rugged part-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case, making them one of the more versatile models of the 2023 manual-transmission cars.
Wrangler
Jeep’s Wrangler is a legend among 4WD vehicles. Loved by off-roaders around the globe, it’s available with a six-speed manual transmission when mated to the 285-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine.
Wrangler’s 4WD system uses a manually engaged two-speed transfer case. The much-adored SUV is available in two- or four-door variants and is extremely capable off-road, especially when modified with some quality off-road parts.
Kia
Forte
Literally, the last Kia sedan for the U.S. market that can be manually shifted is the compact Forte. You’ll need to upgrade to the GT Manual package with a six-speed manual transmission to get the ol’ stick shift added on.
The GT Manual does justice with a 1.6L turbocharged engine sending 201 horsepower to the front wheels. It also comes with larger front disc brakes and a free-flowing exhaust system, making this a spunky sedan.
Lotus
Emira
The Lotus Emira is the last of the fully petrol-powered Lotus vehicles and a follow-up to the impressive Evora GT. It’s a beautiful mid-engine British sports car available with a manual. A 400-horsepower supercharged V6 delivers power to the rear wheels via an available manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.
Drawing inspiration from the Evija hypercar, it also has a lightweight composite body and a host of other goodies to make it a bantamweight street fighter, typical of the Lotus tradition.
Mazda
Mazda3
Undeterred by the waning interest in stick shifts, the Mazda3 hatchback continues to offer a six-speed manual — but only in the Premium trim level. If you happen to come across one of these rare rides, it’ll have front-wheel drive and a 186-horsepower 2.5L four-banger under the hood.
MX-5 Miata
A modern classic, the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata is a living legend among sports cars. While not the fastest, this convertible is one of the most fun cars available, especially for the money.
Like any classic sports car, a manual gearbox is standard fare. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a sewing-machine-smooth 2.0L engine cranking out 181 horsepower. The MX-5 is available with a manually folding soft top or a power-retractable hardtop.
MINI
Cooper Hardtop & Convertible
Not every MINI model is offered with a manual, but you do have two stick shift options in the 2023 lineup. The MINI Cooper Hardtop and Convertible both come with a standard six-speed manual.
For the hardtop, you can choose from the Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works models, which range from 134 up to 228 ponies for the JCW package.
Clubman
The MINI Clubman is a fun compact wagon with a distinctive appeal. The six-speed manual is restricted to the 189-horsepower Cooper S trim, but antics abound despite not having the option to manually change up the gears in the more powerful John Cooper Works ALL4 model.
Mitsubishi
Mirage
The Mirage hatchback is one of the least expensive and least powerful cars on the U.S. market. The base ES model can be purchased with a five-speed manual. The car’s tiny 1.2L three-pot engine makes only 76 horsepower but returns an exceptional 39 mpg combined.
Starting at $14,645 for the versatile hatchback, the Mirage has a 5-year, 60,000-mile, bumper-to-bumper warranty, and a 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, one of the longest available.
Mirage G4
If you like everything about the Mitsubishi Mirage except the hatchback body style, check out the Mirage G4. The sedan’s traditional layout, which can also be had with a five-speed manual gearbox in ES trim, has the same 1.2L three-banger found in the hatchback version but 37 mpg combined.
The trunk is surprisingly big, and it carries that exceptional 5-year or 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Nissan
Z
Nissan’s Z cars have a long history of performance — over 50 years, to be exact. They’ve always been available with a manual transmission as well.
This tradition continues with the Nissan Z. From the sleek styling to the rumored 0-60 mph time, this sports car is slated to come with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine mated to that coveted six-speed manual transmission.
Versa
The subcompact Versa underwent a refresh for 2023 but retains its original powertrain. The five-speed manual transmission is still standard, although only in the base-level S model.
The 2023 Versa has a 122-horsepower 1.6L mill under the hood powering the front wheels. Nissan boasts that the Versa features the most standard safety technology in its class and can net up to 35 mpg on the highway.
Porsche
718
The mid-engine Porsche 718 variants include Boxster and Spyder convertibles and the Cayman hardtop.
The entry point is a 300-horsepower 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, which is available on the base model and purist-leaning Boxster/Cayman T versions. If you’d desire a bit more power, the S models get a larger 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder with 350 horsepower.
Sports car enthusiasts with expensive taste should step up to the range-topping GTS models. Linear power delivery and intoxicating harmonics define the 400-horsepower, 3.0L, naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine.
For pure driver appeal and value, the Cayman GT4 has no rivals. Its naturally aspirated 414-horsepower 4.0L flat-six is heinously terrific, and you can make your own gear changes using a six-speed manual transmission. All models are rear-wheel-drive, available with a third pedal, and sure to please driving enthusiasts.
911
When most people think of Porsche, they think of the quintessential 911. While it’s evolved a lot over the years, it is still available with a seven-speed manual gearbox.
The 911 has the option for a manual in most of the Carrera and Targa variants. These iconic sports cars can be had in a variety of body styles and power outputs.
Undoubtedly, these are serious German high-performance machines that can be had in nearly any option to satisfy any Porche buyer, especially those with their heart set on getting one of the best 2023 manual-transmission cars.
Subaru
BRZ
The BRZ is part Subaru, part Toyota. And it features a 228-horsepower 2.4L naturally aspirated Subaru boxer engine. The rear-drive sports car is a ton of fun to drive, and it even has a back seat, albeit a small one. And yes — a six-speed manual transmission is available. This is also the only non-AWD Subaru for sale in the U.S. today.
Crosstrek
The all-wheel-drive Crosstrek is a compact crossover based on the Subaru Impreza. It has scads of personality and a go-anywhere spirit. Opt for the Crosstrek Base or Crosstrek Premium — not the Sport, Limited, or Hybrid models, and the six-speed manual comes as standard equipment.
Power emanates from a 2.0L horizontally opposed engine making 152 horsepower. The Crosstrek sits 8.7 inches above the ground, which is more clearance than the Impreza. This is an excellent transportation tool for hikers, bikers, kayakers, and skiers who may often encounter bad roads or foul weather.
Impreza
Subaru’s all-wheel-drive Impreza sedan and five-door employ the same 152-horsepower 2.0L engine as the above-mentioned Crosstrek and available manual transmission. Unlike the Crosstrek, the Impreza gets a five-speed instead of a six-speed.
Also, you can only get the manual on the base model Imprezas. If you want the Impreza Premium or higher, it’s a CVT for you.
WRX
Built on rally racing DNA, Subaru’s WRX sports sedans offer a gusty turbocharged engine and tuned suspension system for outstanding performance.
The WRX has a 2.0L four-cylinder making 268 horsepower and is available with a six-speed. If you go with the WRX, you’ll get a fast, fun four-door sedan offering great performance in a variety of road conditions.
Toyota
GR86
Toyota’s track-bred GR86 can be had with a six-speed manual in the base trim package. With that, you get a 2.0L four-cylinder boxer engine that delivers 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque — which is plenty peppy for Toyota’s compact sports car.
Though the premium package gets upgraded with paddle shifters, less is more if you want to row your own gears. Plus, the starting price of $27,900 for the 2023 GR86 MT is pretty convincing, too.
GR Corolla
Toyota’s Corolla has long been a bastion of reliability, economy, and steadfast transportation. If you want to stir your gears, you’ll have to opt for the saucy GR Corolla, which is exclusively available with a six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with rev-matching.
GR Corolla’s short throw shifter and moderately tuned clutch keep drivers engaged with hands-on thrills. Reimagined by Gazoo Racing, this all-wheel drive hot hatch is seriously motivated by the compact-yet-powerful G16E-GTS turbocharged, three-cylinder engine that outputs an impressive 300 horsepower.
Corolla
Toyota’s Corolla has long been a bastion of reliability, economy, and steadfast transportation. Rolling into 2023 as a refreshed model, it gets a styling facelift, new multimedia, and more safety tech. Thankfully, the option for a stick shift continues.
If you want a Corolla sedan with a six-speed manual gearbox, you’ll have to opt for the tarted-up SE model. That model also includes the more powerful 169-horsepower 2.0L engine compared to CVT-equipped models. While the car may have had dowdy looks in the past, the Corolla has shaped up to be a handsome sedan.
Corolla Hatchback
The Corolla Hatchback made a triumphant return to the U.S. market in 2019 and returns as a refreshed model in 2023. The attractive-looking five-door Corolla has the same 169-horsepower engine as the sedan, but can be had with a six-speed manual on the SE as well as the racier XSE models.
The Hatchback puts to rest any inkling of a vanilla-looking past. The Corolla Hatchbacks, especially in the XSE trim, look athletic and modern.
Supra
Thank the forces and passionate souls that brought together BMW and Toyota to bring us the fifth-generation Supra after a long hiatus. Most everything underneath the skin comes from the German automaker’s Z4, but the bodywork is thoroughly Japanese and incorporates small hints of Toyota’s sports car heritage.
Its revival in 2019 came with two engine options — a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four and a turbocharged 3.0L inline-six.
An eight-speed automatic was the only transmission until now. Starting from Q4 of 2022, the 2023 Supra gets a six-speed manual gearbox in the GR Supra 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and limited-edition A91-MT models. Toyota tells us that the new six-speed manual was developed specifically for the Supra’s 3.0L, straight-six engine.
Tacoma
If you like to row your gears in the Toyota Tacoma, you’ll have to opt for the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Pro models. They can have a six-speed manual behind the 278-horsepower 3.5L V6 engine. All will feature 4WD with a high/low range transfer case to get you through snow, sand, mud, or rocks.
Volkswagen
Golf GTI
For the eighth-generation Golf, VW continues to offer its mainstay hatchback with a six-speed manual transmission. The fun-to-drive 2023 Golf GTI, one of the best hot hatchbacks out there, makes 241 horsepower. All Golf versions are known for their European feel and German engineering.
Golf R
From a performance standpoint, the 315-horsepower Mk8 Golf R certainly excites, especially with the stick shift at hand. This hot hatch knows how to dance nimbly around the corners and is a pure joy to drive.
A six-speed is still available and costs $800 less than the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. However, all is forgiven once you’re out of the driveway.
Jetta
The VW Jetta shares many of the engine choices and parts with the Golf. In a similar fashion, it can be had with a six-speed manual, too. However, you’ll need to choose the base S or Sport trim to get that option.
Alternatively, pick the Jetta GLI Autobahn to get the six-speed gearbox paired with a turbocharged 2.0L four-banger making 228 horsepower. Expect a similar driving experience to the Golf/GTI, but with a locking trunk.

2023 Manual-Transmission Cars
Every year, the list of cars equipped with three pedals and a stick shift becomes ever more sparse — although for 2023, we actually gained a few overall as more enthusiast models found their way to the U.S. market.
While 2023 manual-transmission cars might be the driving enthusiast’s choice, new, more modern automatic transmissions can offer better performance, a step up in fuel economy, and can shift faster than any human can.
But for some, driving a car with a manual gearbox offers the feeling of more control and a more direct connection with the vehicle.
While there are still purists out there who only buy manual-equipped vehicles, these cars are getting harder and harder to come by. So if you’re in the market, don’t delay. These 2023 manual-transmission cars might disappear soon!
