Eldora Celebrates 60 Years, Opens One Week Early Today

Today, the backyard ski playground for Boulderites and Denverites celebrated its birthday with an early present to all comers.

Surprise! Eldora Mountain Resort pulled a fast one ahead of its 60th anniversary today, opening one week ahead of schedule.

The gates opened at 9 a.m. local time today, and staff welcomed guests to one open run, the Hornblower-to-International top-to-bottom (moderate difficulty), served by the Alpenglow six-person chair.

A small terrain park is also open in the base area. No beginner terrain is open anywhere on the mountain today.

“Thin” early-season snow coverage along with snowmaking operations allowed the resort to open early, according to a press release.

“Thanks to the hard work of our employees, we’re opening a full week ahead of schedule for our 60th anniversary season,” said Brent Tregaskis, Eldora’s president and general manager. “We’re so proud to have served as the local community’s hub for winter adventure for the past six decades, and we can’t wait to welcome our guests back for another season.”

Want to duck out of work early to go get some turns in before closing time today? Us, too. Here’s what to expect.

Eldora Resort Basics

Eldora is located just past Nederland, Colo., 20 miles west of Boulder and less than 50 miles northwest of Denver. It’s part of the Ikon Pass circuit and offers unlimited access to some pass holders.

Bear in mind basic skiing safety, according especially to the National Ski Area Association’s updated Responsibility Code. (As always, you’re responsible for the safety of skiers and riders in front of you at any time.)

The resort recently expanded parking by 50% to help unclog bottlenecks. And on weekends, you can ride free public transportation straight from downtown Boulder to the Eldora base area (just below the Alpenglow lift). Eldora holds the distinction of being the only ski resort that Colorado’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) serves.

Season passes at Eldora start at $769 for adults. As of this writing, individual lift tickets run $94 now through the rest of November.

See you on the slopes!
