Dog Lost for a Month in Boundary Waters Reunites With Owners
Luigi the lab mix spent 29 days wandering the iconic Boundary Waters canoe area on the border of Minnesota and Canada, before turning up safe and sound.
Luigi vanished into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) on June 25. According to a Facebook post by Amanda Kay, this 7-year-old lab mix with a scruffy gray chin disappeared between Lake Polly and Kawasochong.
The BWCA is more than a million acres of glacier-carved lakes, cliffs, and islands in the upper third of the Superior National Forest. So, one could be forgiven for not giving Luigi very good odds of returning home.
But return home he did; turning up near Loon Lake — more than 20 miles from his last known whereabouts — on July 24. Amanda Kay’s update on the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness Facebook page indicates that Luigi lost some weight and has some minor injuries, but is otherwise just fine.
He has since been reunited with his dads.
Our sources suggest that Luigi is, in fact, a very good, possibly even the best, boy.
