Desert Runner Gets Color & Options to Match Attitude: 2022 RAM 1500 TRX Sandblast Edition

The Sandblast Edition of RAM’s desert-mauler ticks every option box and then adds Mojave Sand paint.

RAM’s dune-jumping, desert-smashing, tire-roasting 1500 TRX pickup is giving buyers a truck-bed full of optional equipment as standard, along with a new paint color you won’t find on any other TRX. Called the Sandblast Edition, this TRX gets that special paint finish, interior accent stitching, and a whole lot more.

In case you’ve somehow forgotten about the meanest pickup on the market, the RAM 1500 TRX is a widebody beast with a supercharged 6.2L V8. It makes 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It is able to break into the 12-second range in the quarter-mile, making it quicker than anything else that can tow more than 4 tons.

TRX has beefier axles for strength, a five-link suspension for off-road articulation, and 35-inch-tall Goodyear tires meant to help you crawl or blast over nearly any obstacle.

The truck is made for the desert, with Bilstein adaptive dampers that can handle amazing amounts of punishment. So, now you can blast through the sand in your Sandblast Edition RAM 1500 TRX.

RAM starts the special edition with a TRX Level 2 Equipment group. That’s the loaded version of the beefy beast, and it gets you a comfort kit like a 19-speaker stereo, upgraded console, leather bucket seats, and a heated steering wheel that’s perfect for desert nights.

Also part of Level 2 are tech features like parking sensors, camera rearview mirror, and surround-view monitors, so it’s got all of the stuff you’re going to want anyway.

From that off-road-ready mold, RAM sprays the truck with Mojave Sand paint. Mojave Sand is normally a Jeep color, and the TRX offers it only as part of this Sandblast package.

RAM isn’t done spraying, either, with TRX graphics on the hood and flanks that are normally extra-cost options. There’s a spray-in bed liner in the back, the better to help make sure your Sandblast’s box doesn’t get, well, sandblasted in the desert.

Sandblast Edition gets its own set of wheels — 18-inch beadlock capable units that are different from the standard TRX’s. It has a dual-pane sunroof — another feature that’s normally an extra-cost option — more cargo tie-downs, and an LED brake light on the cab to help increase visibility when it’s time to throw out the anchors.

Cabin Trim Not Available Anywhere Else

RAM has changes for the Sandblast Edition TRX on the inside to match. The heated and ventilated seats wear light frost accent stitching to give the cabin some more visual flair. TRX seatback logos make sure you know what you’re driving every time you check your rearview mirror or climb up into the cab.

Check the dash and you’ll find carbon fiber accents. The TRX’s standard steering wheel is replaced by one with a flat bottom and even more leather and carbon fiber.

RAM loves little easter eggs, so if you look closely at the driver’s info screen, you might notice that the TRX in there is Mojave Sand too. Keep looking and you’ll find the Sandblast Edition TRX has a head-up display, as well as adaptive cruise and lane-keep assist. All are options on lesser versions of the truck.

The price for all of this is a touch higher than a loaded-up RAM 1500 TRX. That truck, in one of the standard colors, has an MSRP of $98,595. The RAM 1500 TRX Sandblast Edition has an MSRP of $98,285 before destination, which means the special edition is actually a bit of a bargain.

RAM says the Sandblast Edition will go on sale this summer, so expect to see them hiding in your local dunes before fall.
