Compost This Coat: tentree Launches Fully Biodegradable Jacket
Tentree drops its latest and most environmentally conscientious apparel line today, including a first-of-its-kind, 100% biodegradable jacket.
While many brands scramble to spin plastic waste into yarn, tentree seems years ahead of the pack. The brand, which has tied its identity to sustainable practices from its inception, is called “tentree” because it plants 10 trees with every sale.
But today, the leaf shaker has something smaller and even fresher on deck: a unisex jacket that biodegrades from hip to hood. Here’s what we know about the Treeline Canvas Jacket and the rest of tentree’s latest Earth-first capsule collection.
tentree Essential Outerwear Collection
Comprising just three jackets, tentree’s Essential Outerwear Collection is small but dexterous. And it’s just in time to meet autumn weather.
Unisex Treeline Biodegradable Jacket ($178 MSRP)
Kapok fiber is the Treeline Canvas Jacket’s big ticket to compostability. The fiber, which is sustainably harvested from seed pods of the kapok tree, is renewable and compostable. Though versatile and widely available, kapok is typically used in various fills for items like bedding and upholstery.
In the Treeline Jacket, kapok fiber makes one of its first appearances in apparel as part of the insulation layer of the cotton canvas jacket.
And according to tentree, when the jacket reaches the end of its wearable life, all you have to do is remove and recycle the screw buttons, and the rest of the jacket is 100% biodegradable.
