Coming Soon: Woodward’s First International Sports Facility Slated for Australia

Prepare for Woodward’s first overseas opening, which will span three stories and 68,000 square feet and have a variety of action sports opportunities.

Woodward, an indoor action sports center, is home to eight locations nationwide — but not for long. The company announced that it will open its first international location in Sydney, Australia, in 2024. The last time Woodward made an expansion was in 2019.

Woodward expects initial construction to happen in the first half of 2023.

Its locations aren’t just recreational sports centers. They also act as professional-level indoor training facilities with Olympic-grade trampolines, jumps, pump tracks, and more for skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers, and other athletes. For beginners and youth, Woodward locations also offer summer camp opportunities (ages 7-17).

“Growing beyond the North America market to overseas has been a goal of ours for a number of years, and the expansion of Woodward Urban Centers is our next frontier,” said Woodward President Chris Gunnarson.

Woodward Sydney’s upcoming facility will be located in an urban setting in Castle Hill in the region of Northwest Sydney — about a 30-minute commute from Sydney’s downtown.

Programming at Woodward Sydney will run the gamut, including memberships, casual access passes, one-time courses, multiweek programs, school programs, holiday camps, birthday celebrations, and other events.

Woodward hopes to offer athletes 365 days of access to the facility’s many sporting zones.

Training for sports on site will include skateboarding, BMX, scooter, snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, bouldering, and general fitness. When you’re not training, you can enjoy the café and bar while taking in the action from above.

Special features of the new location will include a skatepark, a pump track, mega ramps, trampolines, and a spring floor.

Updates to More Woodward Locations

Additionally, in 2023, Woodward intends to update some of its U.S. locations — Woodward Pennsylvania and Woodward West — by adding new amenities. Woodward Pennsylvania (formerly known as Camp Woodward) was the company’s first location, established in 1970.

The camps’ primary action sports — skateboarding, BMX, scooter, parkour, and multisport — will be improved beginning in 2023.

At Woodward Pennsylvania, renovations include a multisport progression hub, a training facility-style skatepark, outdoor parks, and a newly designed snake run. Woodward West is undergoing general improvements to become a multisport complex.
