Columbia ‘Cirro-Cool’ Shirts Activate by Sweat, Touch to Lower Body Temp

The Columbia ZERO Ice Cirro-Cool Short Sleeve Shirt combines two cooling technologies to wick sweat and cool you down.

You may already be familiar with Columbia’s sun-fighting shirts. But the brand’s latest line of cooling shirts builds on that tech with a loose-fit, stretchy short-sleeve version, designed with desert hikes and cardio efforts in mind. Adding to their performance, the Cirro-Cool shirts use four-way-stretch polyester and have built-in sun protection (UPF 50).

The ZERO Ice Cirro-Cool Short Sleeve Shirt’s use of Columbia’s latest cooling technologies, activated by touch or sweat, makes it stand out.

ZERO Ice Cirro-Cool Short Sleeve Shirt Features

Columbia’s new Omni-Freeze ZERO Ice advanced cooling is the secret ingredient that helps this shirt perform differently than its peers. First off, there’s the feel of the shirt: a dry, cool fabric that works to move heat away from the body, thanks to a fabric finish that absorbs and pushes heat outside the shirt.

Then, there’s the enhanced sweat-activated, evaporative cooling (or wet cooling) power for when activities get more intense. A combination of fibers and yarns in the shirt’s fabric help it wick moisture away from the body.

This new tech joins some of the brand’s most prominent summer technologies. Columbia’s Omni-Wick is made for warm weather activity and moves moisture away from the skin for faster evaporation. Omni-Shade UPF 50 sun protection blocks UVA and UVB rays to protect skin from sunburn and long-term damage.

Look for the Snowflakes

That’s a lot to take in, but it boils down to the brand engineering these cooling technologies into the garment from the yarn up to its telltale snowflake print inside the shirts. And that tech provides results.

Columbia’s testing, which included volunteers, found that the shirt’s thermal conductivity and wet cooling power results both scored higher than heat-reducing apparel made by other top brands in the athletic space.

Wherever you find yourself this summer, chances are you’ll be hot and sweaty. Whether you’re hiking the desert, fishing your favorite waters, or out and about town, the baked-in tech of this shirt will protect against the sun’s heat and harmful rays. If you like the sound of saving energy, and some sweat, by wearing a soft, loose-fit shirt, the Cirro-Cool may be the answer for you.
