Close Call: Big-Mountain Freeskier Backflips Over an Avalanche

Need a little pep in your step this week? Watch this quick shot of pro big-mountain freerider Parkin Costain escaping an avalanche.

The single aerial shot was taken while skiers were on shoot for “Mixtape.” The stoke-reviving film short was captured in Big Sky, Mont., early last year.

In less than a minute, Costain pulls off one of the gnarliest, most elegant backflips we’ve ever seen, and just in the nick of time.

(Yes, he made it off the mountain OK.)

Check it out.
