‘Bottle Claus’: Who Is Eliud Kipchoge’s Bottle Man?
In need of an emotional pick-me-up? Look no further than this vid about Claus-Henning Schulke, whose infectious positivity will lift the spirit.
Other than the white hair and jovial personality, the bottle man for Eliud Kipchoge doesn’t look much like Santa Claus. He’s quite fit, actually.
Nevertheless, the German says the nickname “Bottle Claus,” as the media has dubbed him, doesn’t bother him in the least.
“I’m happy to accept the name,” he said in this mini-documentary.
With a new world record in Berlin in September — and the first man to (unofficially) break the 2-hour marathon barrier — Kipchoge has already ensured a place for himself in the history books.
Yet we’ll remember Claus-Henning Schulke just as well. There’s no denying his tidal wave of enthusiasm every time he hands Kipchoge a water bottle.
Watching this super fan hand over Kipchoge a bouquet of sunflowers when picking him up at the airport — it feels like the world might just be all right.
