BIPOC Bike Adventure Grants Open With Support From Major Cycling Brands

The outdoor industry is making strides in diversity. Even so, some sports like mountain biking and cycling still have a ways to go.

Bikepacking Roots’ new program, the BIPOC Bike Adventure Grant, was created to help reduce the barriers to bike adventure for BIPOC individuals. And the grant applications are now open.

“We created this grant program to help reduce the barriers to bike adventure for BIPOC individuals. And we’ll leave it up to applicants to define what ‘adventure’ means for them,” wrote Bikepacking Roots.

Bikepacking has several major business partners that continually support its work and the bikepacking community. But this grant was also made possible by donations from nearly 50 cycling and outdoor brands.

“Thanks to the generosity of countless individuals and brands, we’re excited to offer awards of between $500 and $3,000. Additional equipment support and mentorship will be available,” wrote Bikepacking.

The grants will cover an array of adventures — everything from funding a trip to a bikepacking destination to covering the cost of a biking-related course or workshop.

And recipients can even use the grant money to attend Bikepacking Roots Rendezvous events or put it toward tuition for a relevant program.

“If ‘adventure by bike’ resonates with you in any way, you recognize the value of these experiences. Please encourage your favorite brands to step up and support this initiative,” Bikepacking requested. Forty-six brands have already pledged support, including Salsa Cycles, WTB, Pearl Izumi, Blackburn, and others.

Bikepacking Roots is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing bikepacking, growing a diverse bikepacking community, and advocating for the conservation of the landscapes and public lands through which they ride. Bikepacking Roots has around 6,000 members.
