Barely-There Activewear: Janji Hits the Trail With AFO-Vent Collection

Introducing Janij’s newest AFO-Vent Collection — designed for trails and featuring the AFO-Vent Multi Short with five pockets for storage in the waistband. GearJunkie readers get 15% off this collection and more at Janji.com with code GEARJUNKIE15.

The Janji AFO-Vent collection centers around the AFO-Vent performance fabric and other features designed for long days on the trails. The four-way stretch fabric is perforated for added breathability and ventilation. And the brand built the waistband pocketing system to load up with snacks, gels, a soft flask, and more.

Janji focuses on changing the world through running. At the brand’s core is the belief that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. Like all of Janji gear, 2% of sales from the AFO-Vent collection support clean water projects across the globe.

Janji: Running (for) Water

Janji says it makes running essentials that support life essentials — specifically, clean water. To help highlight that ethos, the brand’s current Spring/Summer ‘21 season is inspired by Chennai, India — one of the first major cities in the world to exhaust its municipal water supply in 2019.

With each season, Janji collaborates with local artists to design Artist Series prints. The latest capsule was created by Chennai-based textile artist Kashmira Baheti as an homage to the vivid culture of her hometown.

Clean water isn’t the sole focus for social consciousness; Janji also uses certified fabrics and is transitioning to recycled polyester for its main fabric and investing in more sustainable development practices.

AFO-Vent Collection

As Janji’s first collection devoted to trails, the AFO-Vent collection is meant for anyone who runs, hikes, or fastpacks. The collection is made mostly from the AFO-Vent fabric, a nylon known for its durability and moisture-wicking properties.

Alongside the fabric choice, Janji designed the collection with the notion of spending long hours on your feet. It has reflective hits on the pocketing systems, drawcords, and more. And a minimalist design works to save weight to lighten the apparel load.

AFO-Vent Multi-Short: Men’s & Women’s

Janji’s five-pocket waistband is designed to hold active essentials like nutrition gels and bars, a headlamp, gloves, phone, keys, and more. Each pocket opening is reinforced with bar tacks to keep things in place. Inside, the shorts have a polyester brief liner with spandex for stretch.

Other design notes include an infinity loop drawcord to keep the shorts secure and to prevent it from being pulled out (by you or your washer), as well as a reflective logo that adds a touch of visibility.

AFO-Vent Tee: Men’s & Women’s

Janji-AFO-VENT-TEE

The AFO-Vent Tee is an activewear shirt with raglan sleeves that removes seams from the top of the shoulder to accommodate hydration vests and packs. And Janji says the AFO-Vent fabric stays put even with pack abrasion and won’t pill over time.

AFO-Vent Tank: Men’s & Women’s

Similar to the AFO-Vent Tee, the AFO-Vent tank has a low profile, mini-binding collar, and armholes built to lay flat and remain smooth against the skin. The idea, Janji says, is to reduce friction and accommodate hydration vests and packs.

AFO Hyperlight Cap

The AFO Hyperlight cap — a performance activewear cap — weighs less than 1 ounce. Repeat that again — less than an ounce. Made to be stuffed into a pocket or bag, the foam brim is designed to be shaped by hand. A bungee strap in the back secures the fit.

Multipass Sling Bag

This 2L running sling bag has organization pockets sized specifically for keys, credit cards, and a larger space that could hold a rain layer or the Hyperlight cap. The main zippered compartment has an internal key loop and a drop-down envelope pocket for cash or credit cards.

The bag is made from a ripstop material with a light DWR finish to help shed showers. Its back panel is honeycombed to promote airflow against the body. The adjustable nylon straps let you wear it as a sling across the chest or like a fanny pack.

Take to the Trail in Janji

Athletic wear is a crowded space, and Janji hopes to stand apart with its unique fabrics, designs, and core values.

“Janji” means promise in Malay. The brand promises to work with water rights projects worldwide while also making its own materials and practices more sustainable and equitable. Whether the brand’s values are critical or icing on the cake is, of course, up to you.

Either way, the AFO-Vent Collection is a trail-focused extension of the brand that seeks to inspire adventure and attract more outdoor lovers to its minimalist apparel.
