‘Ball of Energy’ Dan Paley Whips in Santa Cruz Bikes Short Film
Dan Paley isn’t a mountain biker or a BMXer. He’s just a man who’s fixed on bikes, and he wants to share the sport with you.
Dan Paley rides BMX. But don’t peg him for just one sport — he’s also a boxer, mountain biker, and “joy bringer” in daily life. Paley grew up BMXing and became a fully sponsored rider with Scottish BMX brand BSD.
Then, after a nasty BMX accident, Paley picked up mountain biking with friends to “gently recuperate.” And he ended up excelling at that too.
“Mountain biking made me like riding my BMX more,” said Paley. Because of his raw talent, he was invited to join the 50to01 crew, whose sole purpose is to make videos, travel, and get other people stoked on mountain bikes.
“I think a lot of BMXers are getting into mountain biking ‘cause they realize it’s the same [as BMX]. You can find spots in the woods that are the same as you’d find in the streets,” says rider Josh “Loosedog” Lewis in the film.
This short film is all about positivity, playfulness, and the power of bikes. Note: There’s not a ton of riding besides some archival footage and a wicked BMX-turned-mountain-bike sequence toward the end.
