3 Fearless Skiers Put ‘Mind Over Mountain’ on the Bugaboos to Rogers Traverse

A team of three incredibly tough female skiers shows us what it takes to travel 85 miles and 30,000 vertical feet in this epic 8-day traverse from Bugaboos to Rogers Pass.

Leah Evans, Marie-France Roy, and Madeleine Martin-Preney spent over a week battling the elements, traversing from Bugaboos to Rogers Pass. There were no huts and no assistance. All they had was grit and the gear on their backs to get them through it.

And, of course, they also had a film crew making a movie about the journey called “Mind Over Mountain.”

On day one, the team had to swiftly shift into survival mode. Freezing temperatures, strong winds, and a complete whiteout engulfed them not long after they started. They trekked through feet of deep snow, pressing forward toward their goal. And it didn’t get much easier from there — it was an exercise of putting “mind” over the mountains challenging them.

The ski traverse from the Bugaboos to Rogers Pass is one of the most well-known in Canada. Beginning in the breathtaking Bugaboos, the route travels across the Purcell and Selkirk mountains and ends at Roger’s Pass. In this remote setting, Evans and her team members were alone amid the stunning mountain vistas and wide-open valley floors surrounding them.

Follow the team’s emotional and physical highs and lows as their epic trip plays out in Patagonia’s “Mind Over Mountain.”
