Wheels Mfg. gives UDH bikes a direct-mount hanger for Shimano derailleurs
Got a bike that’s compatible with SRAM’s UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) but prefer Shimano? Until Shimano launches their own solution, Wheels Manufacturing has one for you with their new direct-mount derailleur hangers for Shimano’s road/gravel and mountain bike groups.
Wheels Mfg. is offering two models to fit any type of bike, both of which replace the B-link on Shimano’s derailleurs. This eliminates one extra point of movement and eliminates just a bit of wiggle room, which they say provides a stiffer mounting point and crisper, more precise shifts.
The Dropout 562 for gravel fits Shimano-Dura-Ace (R9100 and R9150), Ultegra-(R8000, R8050, RX800, and RX805), 105 (R7000), and GRX-(RX810, RX812, RX815, RX817, and RX400) groups.
The Dropout 652 for mountain bikes fits Shimano Saint (RD-M820), Deore (RD-M610, RD-M5120, RD-M4120), Deore XT (RD-M8000, RD-M8050), SLX (RD-M7000-10, RD-M670), and Altus (RD-M2000) groups. Both have the same ability as UDH hangers to rotate backward in an impact, helping save your derailleur during a crash.
Production versions will be black anodized 6061 aluminum and retail for $60. They mount through the dropout, just like a UDH hanger, using the same M12x1.0 thread pitch as UDH-compatible thru axles…so, if your bike came with a UDH hanger, the stock thru axle will work with this hanger.
While SRAM’s T-Type transmission groups are amazing, perhaps the biggest benefit to all riders is the standardization of the derailleur’s position in space, which allows products like this to exist and improve shifting for older and other brand derailleurs, too.
