Set it and Forget it With Gazelle eBikes’ Automatic Gearing
Gazelle just dropped a new lineup of eBikes. The step-through designs are mainly aimed at commuters and casual long-distance riders. “Stepless” gearing (also called automatic) gives a leg up to anyone who doesn’t want to think about what cog to choose.
“These new models offer riders a wide range of new features, technologies, and upgrades to enhance the ride experience,” Gazelle said in a press release.
On deck are mid-drive Bosch Performance Line motors with 75Nm of torque, Gates Carbon belt drives, and plenty of the typical cargo/commuter eBike features, like built-in racks and lighting.
The bikes operate via Bosch’s Smart System, which lets riders access GPS tracking, Anti-Theft service, and more through a smartphone. All four bikes also have an “auto-mode function,” Gazelle said, which “supports the rider with choosing the right level of adaptive assistance.”
Automatic transmission, automatic assist? Don’t think, just pedal — very casually.
Product names are a bit of a mouthful. There’s the Avignon C380 HMB, the Arroyo C5, the Ultimate C380, and Ultimate T10. MSRPs check in at varying price points from $3,999 to $4,999. They’re all on step-through frames with the Avignon featuring Gazelle’s “most accessible frame to date”, though the Ultimate T10 has an optional frame with a top tube.
The Avignon C380, Ultimate C380 and Ultimate T10 will be available this month through Gazelle’s network of authorized dealers across the US and Canada. The Arroyo C5 is expected around late May, 2023.
