Rocky Mountain Goes Full Carbon with Updated Solo Gravel Bike
Rocky Mountain is gearing up for a Solo gravel season. The updated Solo gravel line features a race-ready carbon frame, with larger tire clearance and more compliance for rough roads ahead.
Rocky Mountain Solo: What’s New?
The updated Solo gravel line has two distinct personalities: race-ready and affordable adventuring. Previously, the Solo was only available in an alloy version and started at the Solo 50, with the Solo 30 as the entry point. The newest update to the line is the total carbon Solo 90, 70, and 50 options.
Frame Details: Rocky Mountain Solo Carbon
The new Rocky Mountain Solo Carbon comes crafted from the Rocky Mountain’s Smooth Wall carbon — the same used on its high-end mountain bike lines. Rocky Mountain says the carbon layup uses rigid internal molds instead of traditional air bladders. This process helps eliminate excess resin and fibers, keeping the frames light and ride quality high.
Like its mountain bike production, the carbon used for the Solo has strictly placed reinforced areas to maximize stiffness and impact resistance while minimizing overall weight.
If you look at the seat tube, you’ll notice a flexion point that offers vertical compliance and additional mud clearance. The stated tire clearance for the Solo is 40 mm, but by the look of the photos, it could be capable of more.
The new Solo frames (carbon and alloy) offer many mounting options for storage, fenders, feed bags, and touring accessories.
The new carbon frame uses internal cable routing with dropper compatibility. The Solo’s carbon and alloy models use BB386, and Zero Stack tapered headsets.

Alloy is an excellent material for gravel bikes; it balances strength, weight, and value. The Solo alloy has the same RMB 6061 custom alloy as the previous version. The Solo alloy gets all the accessory mounts of the carbon and boasts the same 40mm tire clearance.

The Rocky Mountain Solo comes in five different build configurations, with three carbon options: Solo 90, Solo 70, and Solo 50. The alloy version of the Solo comes in two offerings: Solo 50 (alloy) and Solo 30. Each bike has its personality through its build and can take on various terrain or commuter duty.
Rocky Mountain Solo 90
The Solo 90 is the top-of-the-line offering for the Solo line. This version comes equipped with SRAM Force AXS 12 speed shifting, with a single ring 42T front and a SRAM 10-44T cassette to take all the climbs. The wheels are Rocky Mountain’s in-house 25mm deep carbon tubeless offerings. The wheels are paired with WTB Venture TCS Light Fast Rolling 700 x 40c tires for a fast but compliant ride.
The cockpit is Easton EC70 AX gravel bars paired with Rocky Mountain’s XC alloy stem. The seatpost is Easton carbon EC70, paired with a WTB Silverado Race saddle.

The Solo 50 Alloy is the same spec as the 50 carbon. The wheels are WTB ST Light i23 TCS 2.0 tubeless rims with Rocky Mountain sealed bearing hubs. It comes equipped with SRAM Rival mechanical with a single 42T front chainring and a 10-44T cassette.

Rocky Mountain Solo 30 Alloy
The Solo 30 alloy is the most affordable Rocky Mountain Solo lineup model but has a very generous spec. The shifting is SRAM Apex 11 speed, with a single 40T ring in the front and an 11-42T cassette. The wheels are WTB ST Light i23 TCS 2.0 tubeless rims laced to Shimano Tiagra hubs. The tires are WTB Venture TCS Light Fast Rolling 700 x 40c, the same as the Rocky Mountain Solo 90.
