Mondraker CHASER X Range Aims for eMTB Capability in Urban Settings
Urban riding is hard on bikes, and urban bikes are hard on booties. Enter Mondraker’s CHASER X range: two eMTBs attempting to bring off-road heritage to the often surprisingly bumpy world of daily urban commuting.
“The new CHASER X range is versatility taken to the max,” according to a Mondraker press release. “Able to get around on any surface or in any environment, [the CHASER X range] offers the responsiveness, speed, and safety of a mountain bike but refocused on an urban setting.”
Mondraker built the CHASER X and CHASER RX with 150mm of travel up front and 140mm in the rear. Adding to that cushion are 2.6-inch 29er Maxxis Ikon tires.
Both versions come standard with a rear rack rated for 55 pounds, plus mudguards, front and rear lights, DB8 brakes, and a direct-mount kickstand. Mondraker says its aluminum frames are designed with “forward geometry” in mind, giving the Chaser X range “more comfort and safety than a conventional urban…bike ever could.” You can make that determination for yourself with this geometry chart.
CHASER X and CHASER RX
The CHASER X is the entry-level model and gets a RockShox Recon Silver RL 29 fork and a SRAM SX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain. On the electric side, the CHASER X boasts a fourth-generation Bosch CX motor and a 625Wh Powertube battery.
Upping the ante a little, the CHASER RX brings a 750Wh battery to the table. An ONOFF Pija dropper seat post (170mm travel), a drivetrain with SRAM SX and GX Eagle components, and a RockShox 35 Silver TK29 suspension fork round out the build.
The CHASER X sports an MSRP of $6,899 and comes in slate or cream, while the forest-green CHASER RX sits at an MSRP of $7,599.
