e*thirteen Aluminum MTB Cranks get Lighter, Stiffer, Shinier Helix Race 30mm Upgrade
For mountain bikers regularly smashing rock gardens, e*thirteen’s new premium machined Helix Race 30mm cranks retain all the rock-bashing capability of their gravity-oriented aluminum cranks, just now a bit lighter, stiffer & with shiny new finish options. A lot of gravity riders prefer an alloy crankset so they don’t need to worry about rock strikes, and now with the new Helix Race they don’t have to compromise on performance or good looks…
e*thirteen Helix Race 30mm premium alloy gravity cranks
It’s hard to argue with the unwavering confidence of an aluminum crankset for blasting down rocky trails without a care in the world. Bash into a rock and the most you will come away with are some fresh battle-scar dings in your crankarms. And now e*thirteen steps it up with a precisely-machined Helix Race crank that drops weight over their affordable Helix cranks, while also getting a 30mm spindle upgrade, too.
“Helix Race 30MM Aluminum Cranks strive to be the ultimate solution for Gravity riders that need the highest performance cranks but favor the impact resistance and rock smashing confidence of aluminum. e*thirteen’s newest cranks are the high-performance alternative to carbon cranks. Fully CNC optimized for weight, these components were engineered to strive for Down County light while exceeding Enduro strengths.” – e*thirteen
Tech details
The e*thirteen Helix Race cranks are built from forged & then CNC-machined 6066-T6 aluminum, with a 7050-T7 alloy spindle. And they do include a molded rubber (removable?) protector on the end of each arm, so you don’t have to ding them on the first ride if you want.
The arms get a standard self-extracting 8mm crank bolt and use e*thirteen’s direct mount Quick Connect chainring interface – compatible with both Boost & Super Boost flip-flop Helix rings (available separately). Claimed weight is just 556g for the 165mm cranks, a savings of just 30g over the same length Helix cranks.
The new Helix Race features a 30mm spindle, like most e*thirteen cranks (but unlike the more basic Helix which offered direct Shimano upgrade thanks to its 24mm spindle).
e*thirteen Helix Race – Pricing, availability & options
The new Helix Race cranks are available now for $280 / 290€ (a bit more than 2x the base Helix alloy cranks), 165, 170 & 175mm lengths. For that price you get just the crank arms, spindle, BB preload adjuster, and lockring – you have to buy the 30mm bottom bracket to fit your bike and whatever direct mount chainring you need to put the power down. The new alloy cranks come in either a standard shiny Black anodized finish, or a new Bronze ano that matches pretty nicely with your Kashima-coated suspension.
