Devinci 2023 E-Troy is Made in Canada, with eMTB-specific Suspension Tuning & MX Wheels
As eMTBs continue to rise in popularity, bike manufacturers are finding new ways to optimize their performance. Cycles Devinci has just announced their 2023 E-Troy, and they’ve taken a focused approach to building the bike around its drive system.
The new E-Troy’s suspension is not only tuned to reflect the weight and weight distribution of the bike, but it’s also designed to resist inputs from the motor keeping the power delivery smooth and predictable. While the previous E-Troy was manufactured in Asia, the new version’s frame is made in Devinci’s facility in Canada.
2023 Devinci E-Troy – Frame Features and Key Specs:
The 2023 E-Troy is built around a 6061-T6 aluminum frame that is made in Chicoutimi, Quebec and is covered by a lifetime warranty. The frame offers 150mm of rear travel, and upfront you’ll find a 170mm fork on the top-tier GX 12s LTD model and 160mm forks on the other two builds. The new E-Troy features dedicated frame geometry to optimize its mixed-wheel setup.
Devinci sought to make the new E-Troy feel like an agile trail bike but with all the benefits of a thoughtfully incorporated drive system. In their words, they describe it as “…a bike that will change the way you look at riding without changing the way you ride.”
The new E-Troy’s suspension kinematics were tuned in accordance with the weight distribution of the bike, and Devinci even revised their Split-Pivot linkage to counteract inputs from the motor to keep the suspension active under pedaling efforts – this enhances traction and keeps the power delivery smooth and consistent. The linkage is also designed to separate acceleration forces from braking inputs, and offer a high degree of small-bump compliance.
Devinci employs Enduro double-lip sealed bearings in the E-Troy’s frame, and top-mounted GN4 Mini Guide chain guides are included on all models. They’ve also neatly integrated the rear wheel speed sensor into the dropout.
The E-Troy has adopted SRAM’s UDH hanger, and for frame protection you get high-density chainstay protectors and Nylon motor/battery protectors to resist rock strikes and keep out debris.
The new E-Troy frame accepts 31.6mm seatposts and features internal cable routing. Rear axle spacing is Boost 148mm and the bike runs a 55mm chainline providing clearance for up to 27.5×2.6” rear tires.
Bosch Drive System:
All models of the new E-Troy are powered by Bosch’s updated Performance Line CX motor, which produces a maximum 85NM of torque. All the new E-Troys carry a 625Wh battery – in Eco mode (and under ideal conditions) the bike can provide assist for up to 94kms. If that’s not enough for you, the bikes are compatible with Bosch’s Powermore 250 Range Extender, which adds another 250Wh of battery capacity.
The Bosch Performance Line CX motor’s output is highly tunable and can adapt to your riding style in eMTB mode. Furthermore, the Flow App allows you to adjust the motor’s power output settings.
The down tube battery is easily dropped from the frame and features a keyed lock to secure it to the bike. A charge port just above the motor allows for easy in-frame battery charging. Devinci’s 4A Supercharger provides an 80% charge in about two hours.
Bosch’s Mini Remote is a compact control unit that connects to the drive system via Bluetooth, making it easy to mount and position as desired. There are different computers on each model – The top-spec GX 12s LTD gets a Bosch System Controller, while the GX 12s uses Bosch’s Kiox 300 and the Deore 12s runs a Bosch Purion.
Geometry:
On the new E-Troys, Devinci slacked out the head tube angle to 63.5° and increased the seat mast angle to a steep 78.5°. Chainstay lengths are the same across the size range at 438mm. See the chart above for all the angles and measurements.
Model Lineup:
Three builds of the new E-Troy will be available. Here are some quick notes on specs; all models feature Fox suspension front and rear, 4-piston brakes with 200mm or 203mm rotors, and Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR II 3C tires. Stock dropper post lengths are 125mm for small, 150mm for medium, 170mm for large, and 200mm for XL.
E-Troy GX 12s LTD – $7999
E-Troy GX 12s – $7699
E-Troy Deore 12s – $6399
