De Rosa 70 is a Much-Lighter Pininfarina-designed Aero Road Bike
Celebrating seventy years of crafting premium Italian road bikes, De Rosa is back with the all-new lightweight carbon 70 aero road bike shaped by renowned racing design firm Pininfarina and almost 1/4 lighter than its predecessor! Officially dubbed the Settanta – seventy in Italian – they are calling this anniversary road ride “the most advanced De Rosa bike of all time“.
De Rosa 70 lightweight aero road bike, by Pininfarina designs
De Rosa collaborated with Italian car designer Pininfarina back in 2019 for their bubbly san serif makeover together with the latest Super King aero road bike – a design that was already sleekly integrated by modern bike standards.
But now the new De Rosa 70 aka Settanta gets a visually lighter aero design that echoes more of their Merak while shedding a lot of frame weight – almost 10% lighter than that lightweight all-rounder and more than 23% lighter than the aero bike!
Tech Details
The new hi-mod carbon De Rosa 70 road bike features a mix of UD, 1K & 5K fibers, with hints of the carbon weave coming to light in the raw-finished rear end. De Rosa says race-ready stiffness was a main priority for the new frame, but is still managed to drop a claimed two hundred-twenty grams over the four-year-old SK Pininfarina – with the new 70 Pininfarina claimed to weigh just 730g (54cm).
Even the new fork drops ninety grams, down to a claimed 280g.
The new De Rosa 70 maintains edgy motorsports-inspired Pininfarina lines, mixing in flat sides and aerofoil profiles for a balance of looks and aerodynamics. Even with new clearance for up to 32mm tires, De Rosa claims it delivers their lowest drag figures in CFD yet. Up front, the 1.5″ FSA headset is more smoothly integrated than ever, tucked down into the top of the headtube keeping all the cables fully internal for modern electronic shift, hydraulic disc brake groupsets.
Overall it keeps the dropped seatstays & proprietary aero seatpost of its predecessors and adopts the ever-so-slightly sloping toptube design of the Merak. A press-fit BB86 sits inside a classic oversized bottom bracket paired to tall sinuous chainstays for drivetrain rigidity, plus flat mount disc brakes and 12mm thru-axles.
